Ballarat North Bowling Club held its annual Open Fours Tournament on Saturday, 2nd April 2022 with Learmonth running out winners and snaring a threepeat in the process.

Bowlers faced brisk, windy conditions on the day and event sponsors were UFS Dispensaries Ltd, Book Bazaar and Bake & Grind.

Three games of 11 ends were the order of the day and it was the team of Ross Powell, Gary Moy, Tim Griffin and Jake Millane from Learmonth who landed the spoils on offer.

It was the third win in a row for Learmonth in this event and they always turn up to play, reportedly all getting to bed early on Friday night to ensure they were at their best for the job at hand.

Runners-up were City Oval’s Peter Oxlade, David Murphy and Tony Spargo and Clune’s Bill Hudson, who combined well as a team to take home second prize.

In an entertaining start to the day, in lieu of a roll up, bowlers were asked to roll ditch-to-ditch across the green with closest to the ditch declared winner.

It’s fair to say more bowls ended up in the ditch than on the green and it was a great way to get players in the mood for a fun day of lawn bowls.

Players were treated to a lovely meal and desert by the club, along with some delicious Bake & Grind treats for afternoon tea.

Club president Scott Plater was thankful to all who helped make it a fabulous day.

Just want to thank all our sponsors – UFS Dispensaries Ltd, Book Bazaar, Bake & Grind being the major sponsors,”Scott said.

Thanks to all the clubs that have turned up today and had a great day.”

To all those that helped prepare the meals and work the bar and helped out on the green we owe a big thanks.”
